Mini Report On Toucans

Toucans 

Introduction

In this blog you will learn about what toucans eat, how tall they are, their weight and much more. Hopefully you will learn something new or 5 things new. You never know.

Appearance and classification

They can grow up to 25 inches tall. Toucans can weigh up to 620g. The Toucan has many different colors like yellow, orange and more. Their skin  covering has got black feathers all around their body but on the neck it is white or yellow.  

Habitat

They live in Southern Mexico, Central America, South America and Northern Argentina. The Toucans are being affected by climate change because people are destroying their habitat. Toucans make their homes in whole trees. They live in pairs or small flocks.  

Enemies

Their enemies are Forest Eagles, Hawks, Owls, Boas, Jaguars and Margays. To protect them they depend on the really loud voices to scare whomever is hunting them or trying to catch them . Their bills are useless to them, in fact the bills just attract humans. 

Diet

Toucans use their beaks to pluck and peel the fruit that they eat. They are omnivores. They eat insects, small reptiles, fruit and other birds eggs.

Fun facts

Since the 1960's, Toucan Sam, a cartoon mascot, has been used as the face of Kellogg's breakfast cereal Fruit Loops.

They live up to 20 years.

WW1

What it was like for kids when the war was going on?

The children found it really hard because many of their fathers were killed and their mothers would not have any time to look after her children because they would have been working long hours. The woman would spend more time outside the house than doing chores inside the house.   

Facts about WW1
World war 1 started on July the 28 1914. Over 8 million soldiers died and 21 million were injured. WW1 ended on June 28 1919. The youngest British soldier was only 12 his name was Sidney Lewis. He lied about his age so that he could join the war and fight for his country. He was one of 250,000 under age soldiers. Most of them lied about their age because they love their country. Some others did so that they could escape their poor lives. Plastic surgery was invented  because of WW1 because  so many soldiers required surgery to repair their damaged bodies. Over 12 million letters were delivered to the front line every week. Chemical weapons were first used in WW1.
My great great Uncle Raymond  Kean was killed in the war.  He got shot while flying a plane and he was only 22 years old.  He was awarded the DFC ( Distinguished Flying Cross) a few years ago.  My Mum and Dad attended the ceremony at the Air force  Museum in Wigram. He was awarded this posthumously ( which means after he died).  He was supposed to receive it at Buckingham Palace from the King but he was killed the day before the ceremony.  His medal is in the museum in Wigram.

What is in the bag?

For math we had to play what is in the bag.  This is how you play:
Write down 2 colours on 6 pieces of paper.  You could do 5 of one colour and 1 of another colour or 2 and 4 or even 3 or 3. Then what you do is you put them in a bag and go to someone and start pulling them out and tell them what the color is. Then keep doing that until you want to stop then ask them what color do you think is less or more or is it even?

I played with my brother Joe Joe. We played 2 games. On the first one the 2 colors were pink and red. there were 2 pink and 4 red. There were a lot of pinks pulled out but after 4 pinks the red started to show up. Joe Joe guessed pink  but he was wrong. We played again but with different colours yellow and green. I tried to trick him by doing 2 greens and 4 yellows again but it didn't work because he won.

Why don't you try play the game at your house.

Board game

My favourite board game is Jenga. This is how you play it. 

• You set the tower up. 
• Then each player has a turn of pulling one of the wooden blocks out 
• After you pulled it out you put it on top of the tower 
• Then you keep repeating that until it falls. 

You have to be very careful of your decision when you pull it out.

It is a game of skill and accuracy. You could twist it up a little by making the person who knocked down the tower eliminated and then you will end up with a winner.

If you have the game at your house then maybe you should play it today.

Is technology making our world better of worse?

Is technology making our world better of worse? I think that technology is make the world better. You know how you used to have to walk up and change the TV by the side? Now you can just use the remote. It is good for somebody who finds it difficult to move around. Another good thing is electric wheelchairs.  They help disabled people get around faster and can allow them to be independent. It is also a good  way to talk to somebody far away that you can't see that often. I also think technology is good because Google can help us if we were lost or if someone was in danger. You can also watch the news with the TV so you know what is happening, for example coronavirus. I think we need technology in our lives. It would be hard to live without.

Poems

There are many types of poems for example Acrostic poem, Haiku poem and Rhyming poem. 

This is a Haiku poem

Autumn
5 Leaves fall from the trees

A Haiku poem is a short poem consisting of 3 lines.  The first line has 5 syllables, the 2nd line has 7 syllables and the third line has 5 syllables.

Scavenger Hunt

I went on a scavenger hunt today at home to find something that begins with each letter of the alphabet. Here are all the things that I could find with every letter of the alphabet inside and outside the house.

5 things that I would take into space

Five Things  I would Take Into Space:

1. Food. I would take food so that I don't get hungry and so that I can keep my body well fed and nourished so I could concentrate on my reason for being in space.

2. Water. I would take water Because I don't know how long I could be out there for and water is essential for us to survive.

3. Flossy. I would take my teddy Flossy so that I don't get scared ( Flossy would bring her blanket so she doesn't get scared )

4.  Device. I would bring a device so that I could keep in touch with people and know what is happening on planet earth.

5. Toothbrush. I would bring this so that I can clean my teeth at night and in the morning. My Mum would be upset if I didn't brush my teeth!!!!

Bubblegum Ice cream

Do you like your kids having bubblegum.? Are you are scared they might choke ? Well I have got the perfect solution for you. Bubblegum flavored ice cream. Its yummy Its simple and your child will not choke!!! In addition to this, it is also cheap, $1 for a single scoop. So stop what you are doing and try out this new flavour. It is a limited edition. You can only buy me at the BP. ( which is handy because we the BP is an essential service and is open during lock down!)  It is limited stock so come now before it runs out.

Animal for the day

If I could be any animal I would chose a Cat. Here is a  reason why I choose a Cat. Because I could climb trees really easily. As a cat my day would start like this.  I would sleep in. Then I would get up and go to the park and pretend that a predator is hunting me down, so I would play in the bushes. Next I would go and try and find a really big tree and climb up with my claws. I would stay up there and keep watch for the predator. Finally I would go home and have dinner and play with my owner.  

Cookies

I have made cookie instructions so that you have something fun to do. Hope you enjoy.

Just imagine you were stuck at home nothing to do and you want something yum to eat. Pause sorry but before you take a million years to decide I have got the perfect solution. You could... Bake your own cookies. If you do not know how to bake cookies don't worry because never fear I am hear to teach you how to do it!!!    

Listed Bellow are the ingredients. ( you will need an oven, baking paper and a couple of trays )

•  1 1/4 Plain flour
• 1/2  teaspoon of baking soda
• 1/4 teaspoon of salt
• 125g butter at room temp ( cubed ) 
• 3/4 cup of firmly packed brown sugar
• 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence or paste 
• 1 large free-rang egg  at room temp
• 1 cup of chocolate chips

( I normally double the mix )

Baking time. 

• Preheat the oven to 200c regular bake. Get your trays and put the baking paper so it covers the hole tray.

• Sift the flour backing soda and salt into a bowl. Stir with the whisk to combined In another bowl beat butter brown sugar and vanilla essence until very well combined. Add the egg and beat till well mixed.

• Add the dry ingredients and the chocolate chips to the cream mixture. Mix well with a wooden spoon to combined.

• Put heat tablespoons of the mix on the prepared baking tray about 5 cm apart. ( these cookies do spread.)

• Bake for about 8-10 mins. If you are doubling the mix and using 2 trays around halfway through to ensure even cooking

• Once they are done cool the cookies for about 5 mins

Now you should have very good baked cookies. I am interested to know if you baked these and what your thoughts are?  

Bear Hunt

While we are stuck at home we decided to go on a walk and do the bear hunt. I was on my roller blades, my brother went on his penny board, and my other brother went on his scooter. ( So it was't really a walk but mum and dad walked.) The first bear we saw was on a roof and it was holding a beer in its hands. ( It was my Dads favourite.) We saw this really big one. It was white with a ribbon around its neck. There was one where there were a bunch of Bennie Boos in a window. There were a couple of others. One was pink, it was little. Another one was a little brown bear it was so cute. Our window has four bears on it. Three are mine, The Honey Bear, Tigger and Soccer Bear. The other one is Pandy which is my brothers. The reason that people are putting there bears in their windows is for people to  is  go out on a walk as a family,find as many teddy bears as they can and enjoy the fresh air. I encourage you to put a bear on your window and try find and some in your own Neighborhood.
